AUSTRALIA'S Karrie Webb has shot a six–under 66 in windy and hot conditions to take a two–stroke lead over playing partner Annika Sorenstam in the Senior LPGA Championship.
Webb had six birdies in Saturday's bogey–free round in the plus–37 degrees Celsius temperatures in Kansas, with the wind gusting to 56km/h. She was at nine under ahead of the third round at Salina Country Club – the first–time host for the fifth edition of the annual tournament.
"It was very challenging today," Webb said.
"I managed my game really well. I actually didn't play the par 5s great, I only made two birdies on those, but bogey–free on a day like today is a pretty good effort."
Sweden's Sorenstam had a 68.
"I feel like I'm ready, I feel like I'm swinging well," Sorenstam said.
"I just have to be patient more."
The Hall of Famers will play together again in the final round on Sunday.
"There's plenty of birdies out there," Webb, the only Australian in the field, added.
"I'm going to keep playing aggressively and give myself as many chances as I can.
"When we play against each other, even if we're going out for a social hit, we'd probably bring the best out of each other ... I think that's what's happened the past couple of days."
First–round leader Lisa DePaulo (73) is third at six under with fellow Americans Clarissa Childs (68), Leta Lindley (70) and Laura Diaz (72) a further shot back. –AAP
