Borrello returns to ALM at Wanderers

FRINGE Socceroo Brandon Borrello will look to force his way into Graham Arnold's World Cup squad with a return to the A–League Men, after joining Western Sydney.

The ex–Brisbane Roar player has signed with the Wanderers on a two–year deal after spending the past five years in Germany.

Borrello featured for Kaiserslautern, Freiburg, Fortuna Dusseldorf and Dynamo Dresden during his time in Europe, mostly in Germany's second–tier 2. Bundesliga.

The 27–year–old has made four appearances for the Socceroos, but hasn't been part of Arnold's set–up since World Cup qualifiers against Vietnam and Oman in January.

"The atmosphere, the coach and the team is what has me most excited about coming back to Australia," Borrello said.

"I think it's a great fit for me and I can't wait to get back.

"I think with the team that has been built by the coaching staff, it's completely up to us as we have the quality and we want to win trophies.

"I don't want to be shy about it, we have a great team being built so why shouldn't we want to succeed in every way possible?

"Individually, that will all come when I'm playing well."

Borrello isn't the only player hoping a return to the ALM will bring with it a spot in the World Cup squad with former Melbourne City wonderkid Daniel Arzani strongly linked with a move to Macarthur FC following his injury–wrecked stint in Europe. –AAP
