Strathbogie Shire councillor Mick Williams has been awarded the Order of Australia Medal (OAM) for his many decades of serving his community as a councillor and for his involvement with the Euroa Magpies Football Netball Club and the Goulburn Valley Football Netball League as well as other sporting groups.

“I really really got a shock to be honest, and my old friend George Hunter got an OAM, and actually to be quite honest I have been a referee in the past, but I’m in the hottest now, but I am honoured to receive the award,” Mr Williams said.

Mr Williams played for Euroa in the 1960s under the legendary Dick O’Bree and credits his love of football at that time in his achievements in growing local sport in the region.
