Police officers remembered

TWO local police officers who served the area in the 19th and 20th centuries were commemorated with two services in Euroa and Avenel last Tuesday Hosted by the Strathbogie Shire Council and the Victoria Police Memorials Committee, the two services remembered Constable Arthur Smith and Mounted Constable John Joseph Glynn.

Const Smith served the Euroa and district community from 1914 for eight years, was a known sportsman in the region and represented the local police team in tug of war.

His death in 1921, when he was 32 years of age, of nephritis, which is an inflammation of the kidneys often caused by infections, toxins or other autoimmune diseases.
