THE GANG: A photo of outlaws (from left) Dan Kelly, Ned Kelly and Joe Byrne taken in Euroa on December 10 1878, has sold at auction to a private bidder for $12,000 in Sydney last month. This photo depicts both the front image of the bushrangers and the reverse side, showing the logo of Ballarat photographer Alfred Burrows.

TWO photos of Ned Kelly and his gang which is believed to have been taken in Euroa in the late 1800s have been sold to an anonymous buyer at auction for $12,000.

The photo was offered one week after the Glenrowan Siege, with ads to sell them being published in Launceston’s two papers – the Examiner on July 9, 1880 and the Cornwall Chronicle paper on July 13 of 1880.

As such, it became the only known image of the Kelly Gang published in Ned Kelly’s lifetime.
