STRATHBOGIE Shire Councillors voted last Tuesday night to reinstate the incumbent chief executive officer Steven Crawcour on a new 18 month contract.

By a vote of four to two (Cr Kate Stothers is currently on leave) the council supported the motion moved by Cr John Mason to ‘reappoint Steven Mark Crawcour as CEO without advertising the position under Section 94 of the Local Government Act until November 19, 2019 with no extension’.

The council also supported the motion that recruitment of a new CEO to replace Mr Crawcour starting September 1 of this year, making allowance to do so in the 2018/19 budget.

Mayor Amanda McClaren said the decision to reappoint Mr Crawcour was designed to provide stability for the council in a time of potential change and uncertainty.

“We need stability and expertise over the next 18 months, with the upcoming state and federal election, a new Local Government Act, and Strathbogie Shire entering EBA negotiations,” mayor McClaren told the Gazette.
