ON June 7 the National Australia Bank will close the doors to its branch in Binney Street, the bank citing the shift from face-to-face to online banking making the physical branch redundant.
However, many individuals and businesses within Euroa and surrounding towns have expressed their disappointment that of the four major banks, the town will be reduced to just one remaining branch.
The Strathbogie Shire Council was one such organisation that banked with NAB, and utilised its physical banking services.
The council said it was disappointed with the decision of the bank to close its Euroa branch, and said that part of the council’s decision to conduct its own banking with the NAB was that it would help keep the branch open.
“Whilst council understands technology is reducing the amount of physical contact customers are having with their banks, we are disappointed NAB is closing the doors of its Euroa branch and that our community will no longer be able to utilise the services of the branch locally,” a statement from the council read.
