LISA Mooney and her business The Coffee Bird have been given permission to operate on a three-month trial basis at the Seven Creeks Park on Kirkland Avenue.
Many within the community voiced their anger after council first issued The Coffee Bird, which sells coffee and doughnuts from a moveable van, a permit to trade on the street, then subsequently withdrew permission to trade at the last minute citing ‘traffic concerns, noise issues and significant safety hazards’.
Council has now moved away from that earlier decision, and The Coffee Bird van will be able to trade on Thursdays and Fridays for the next three months, subject to monitoring reports being provided to council on a weekly basis.
“We are very pleased to confirm that the Coffee Bird Van – operated by Ms Mooney – has been approved to proceed on a trial basis for three months,” mayor Amanda McClaren said.
“The local law permit for Ms Mooney was not revoked, it was subject to traffic and safety issues being resolved, which we now feel is satisfactory for the commencement of a trial.
“Council has also informed neighbouring residents of the trial commencement and has welcomed their feedback.”
