• Funding, but still short

THE Strathbogie Shire Council was one of five councils in the Murray electorate to receive funding under the Australian Government’s Financial Assistance Grant Program in 2015-16.

The shire will receive a total of $4,873,522 with a first quarter payment of $596,302.

Dr Sharman Stone (MHR, Murray) said the grants will be used for a variety of areas.

“These grants play an important part in funding our local councils who use these funds for infrastructure, health, recreation, environment, employment and roads projects,” she said.

Strathbogie Shire chief executive officer Steve Crawcour said that $2 million worth of the funding would go towards vital road maintenance.

“Of the $4.873 million allocated by the Victorian Grants Commission to Strathbogie Shire for the 2015/2016 year, $2 million goes towards vital roads maintenance that would not otherwise be undertaken,” he said.
