A FORMER British Army officer, Mike Wickham, now living in Creightons Creek, will undertake the 100 kilometre Anzac Day Challenge to raise funds for current and former service personnel.

The challenge will commence at St Ives Showground on Anzac Day and finish at the Manly Warringah War Memorial Park at Manly Dam, alongside the Lakeside Memorial.

The timed running and trekking endurance challenge will cover scenic northern Sydney trails through both the Ku-ring-ai and Garigal national parks.

Mr Wickham said the challenge would not only commemorate the 100-year anniversary of the Anzac Day landings, but would raise funds for two Australian charities, Soldier On and Mates for Mates.

He said these charities support current and former service personnel (and their families) with assistance including psychotherapy and financial support in regards to issues such as acquired brain injuries, post traumatic stress and anxiety.

“Often (they) self-medicate with alcohol and sadly, as a psychiatric nurse, I come across these individuals who have served the country,” he said.
