MORE than 2000 people were at the Benalla Racecourse on Sunday for the Euroa Cup, to witness a locally owned and bred horse claim the top prize.
Well known horseman Chris Rentessis took out the Euroa Cup with his Jerilderie-trained gelding Final Jest.
After the race the owner was choked with emotion and struggled to find the words to express his happiness about the win.
“We’re just so happy and it couldn’t be more perfect. Euroa is an extremely special place to me,” Mr Rentessis said.
“My wife’s from Euroa, I got married in Euroa and I’ve spent most of my adult life there.”
He was equally pleased for his long-time trainer Phil Sweeney, who also recently won the Jerilderie Cup with the gelding.
