Hayes and nephew, partners in racing

WINNING DOUBLE: Horse trainer David Hayes has invited his nephew Tom Dabernig to train in partnership with him under the famous Lindsay Park banner.

TOM Dabernig has emerged from the wings to take centre stage with his Hall of Fame uncle, horse trainer David Hayes at Lindsay Park in Euroa.

It was announced last week that the pair had formed a training partnership and that Dabernig would now share billing with his famous uncle in the racebook.

The pair will enter into an official training partnership from August 1, when the new racing season kicks off.

The promotion means Dabernig will join his uncle at the helm of Strathbogie Shire’s second biggest employer.

Lindsay Park has a staff of 90 people compared with the 115 employed by the Strathbogie Shire Council, making it a prominent employer in the area.

Hayes said he had always trained with family, first with his father Colin and then his brother Peter, so it was a natural move to invite Tom to form a partnership.
